Most diets out there are about denying yourself, whether it be calories or portions or carbs, and while this diet also cuts out the unnecessary foods, what it really does is give you so many things. It’s not some weight watchers processed ridiculously tiny meal that you microwave and tastes like plastic, this is a diet that lets you eat until you’re full, and you’re eating delicious whole foods that taste great and are well balanced. I always wondered how I was supposed to get all the nutrients I needed on some 1500 calorie diet. It never made any sense to me. Now I’ve thrown calorie counting out the window, I concentrate on eating the foods that I know my body needs, and its so much more satisfying than anything I’ve tried before! And what have I gotten out of it? Well, I’ve basically maintained the same weight as when I was half starving myself, I’ve learned how to cook delicious healthy food for myself from raw ingredients (no more relying on some corporate CEO to decide on what chemicals may or may not be good for me), I don’t have a single product in my house that has unrecognizable ingredients, and most labels have less that 3 ingredients, my skin has been returned to pre-adolescent glory (who even knew that was possible at 31??), and I feel good about myself. “Almost all of my digestion issues have disappeared.”
I have been suffering from many issues with my gut for quite some time. It went from being gassy, to bloated, to severe cramping. I had already gone dairy free before doing this challenge. I had tried removing gluten from time to time but working in a restaurant that mainly sells pastries and bread – it becomes its own challenge. But my issues had continued to worsen. By having the recipes to center me I was able to focus my diet and dig in and do the research. “I had no idea I was not eating as healthy as I thought”
I always considered myself to be a very healthy eater. I cook pretty much every single meal I eat, (which before paleo, was typically once, maybe twice a day. I fixed that real quick! I was eating whole grains, very little processed food, lots of vegetables, lean meats, etc. I had no idea that I was not eating as healthy as I thought! Upon starting the paleo challenge, I found this the most difficult concept to grasp. “Wait, it comes from the earth?? Why can’t I eat it???” and “But fat is bad for you!?? Why is all this paleo food so full of fat???” But after being educated by Autumn and educating myself through a bit of research, I was pleasantly surprised by what I learned. I embraced the challenge to the best of my ability and although the 30 days are over, I’ve definitely decided to make it a lifestyle, and not just a diet. “I lost 12 pounds total…”
I was super scared to start the paleo challenge, but I still started right away on the first day and found it wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be! I definitely missed some of the things I was not eating, but honestly it was mind over matter. I really like that I can eat until I am full without feeling guilty about my portion size. I enjoy eating bacon a lot, even though I have never been much of a bacon eater. I have found that the grass-fed meat I am buying was so much more juicy and delicious that what I had previously been choking down (in fact, before paleo I ate a largely vegetarian diet). I was skeptical of cutting out legumes, as they had provided most of my protein, but once the weight started melting off I saw the light I lost 12 pounds total, and probably would have lost more if I hadn’t had a major off-the-rails week in the middle! I definitely plan to continue following the paleo plan…I have definitely made some lifestyle changes that I will be sticking with…

“I have been able to eliminate those cycles of guilt and binge eating.”
This challenge has been a fantastically freeing experience. I have struggled to lose the weight after having my second baby (who is now 2 1/2). Not because I don’t want to, not because I haven’t tried, not because I hate to exercise. I enjoy eating healthy, and I enjoy exercise. I have struggled because I am an emotional eater.
In the past, I have been able to “diet” down a few pounds, then “work off” another few; only to gain it all back at an incredibly fast rate. Why? Because I would get stuck in a vicious cycle. For example: we might have decided one night to order pizza as a ‘reward’ for losing a few pounds, eating healthy, and exercising regularly. After eating a slice or two I still would not be satisfied, so I would keep eating. Then guilt would set in (“Oh my! I just ate SIX PIECES!”) So I would tell myself “I’ll do better tomorrow.” So the next day I wouldn’t eat much of anything until well after lunch time, then would feel so famished that I would devour chips, candy, crackers, etc… This would happen for 2, then 3, then 4 days. The scale would creep up and up and up. The more junk I would eat, the worse I would feel (psychologically AND physically), which made it me less likely to exercise. Extreme diligence to lose a few pounds would be jeopardized with just one ‘cheat’ meal.
However, with the paleo challenge – I have been able to eliminate those cycles of guilt and binge eating. Why? Because I feel good. All the time. One bite of processed food is enough – enough to make me feel ill, and enough to make me stop eating it. Thus ending that cycle!!
As an added bonus – on the days I’m not able to exercise, I don’t beat myself up about it. Because skipping a workout or two while eating REAL food has far less of an impact than skipping them when eating the crazy, addictive, cycle-launching, processed foods.

Why The Paleo Diet?
If you’re like most people then it is likely that you have a desire to be the healthiest “you” possible. And it is also likely that you understand the effect that what you put in your body has on your overall well-being.
The modern diet is literally killing us and it’s time that we take a stand. With chronic diseases, obesity, Type II Diabetes, and a host of other health defects on the rise the time to change the current path we are on is upon us.
But why is it that our ancestors and even those cultures that exist today that have not been subjected to a conventional “western” diet have near perfect health, teeth, bone structure, vision, and virtually no occurrences of becoming overweight?
It is because they are eating the foods that humans were intended to eat. The paleo diet is literally us rediscovering the foods that mother nature has given us which are nutrient-dense, health promoting, and delicious. It is a return to what our paleolithic friends have known for many millenia about eating for supreme health and vitality.
The Paleo Diet Is Proven:
The best part about the paleo diet is that you are not a guinea pig like so many modern day diets. The paleo diet can help with fat loss, digestive complaints, energy issues, joint pain, and even to produce lower markers for many degenerative diseases because that is what it has done for us so many others who have adopted a paleo lifestyle.
Finally, if the results of modern day paleo dieters isn’t enough proof for you, all we have to do is remember that for nearly 2 million years the human diet went unchanged and our paleolithic ancestors thrived as a result.
